ITA Bottom Bracket for Shimano Road

Italian-threaded bottom bracket shells are typically found on Italian-brand road bikes. The shell measures 70mm wide and has a 35mm inner diameter.

This kit has all the pieces necessary to install 24mm diameter spindle cranks into an ITA shell. Those cranks come from Shimano, FSA, and others.

CeramicSpeed bearings pressed into threaded cups, then threaded into the frame. Those bearings comprise either Standard or Coated Bearings. Super round, super smooth CeramicSpeed balls rotate in hardened-steel races in both. The Coated version has a metallic coating laid onto the races, making them even harder and smoother, resulting in longer life and lower drag.

    In the Box

    • 2 threaded cups with bearings.

    • 2 dust covers with built-in spacers.

    • Spacer tube.

    • All Round grease.

    • Sticker sheet.

    Technical Data

ITA bb’s, thanks to the popularity of Italian road bike design, still have a following. The drive-side cup needs to be properly secured, but once that’s done, the system is excellent. 24mm cranks work better when mated to our bearings.

To have your bike as efficient as possible, reduce mechanical drag. Bottom brackets have a measurable effect on speed. CS balls are 100% smoother and 15% harder than the ceramic competition. They run on smoother races, too. They reduce the drag of our Standard Bearing bb’s by 75% when compared to typical bottom brackets. The bearings last at least 3x longer than other bearings.

These bearings come packed with All Round Grease. If you want less drag and are riding in cleaner environs, install lowest drag Race Day Grease. If you’re riding in wet conditions, more durable Long Life Grease can be put in.

If you don't have any experience installing bottom brackets and bearings, we recommend that you have your local bike shop fit your new bearings.

    Maintenance of CeramicSpeed Bottom Brackets

We recommend that you follow our instructions on how to maintain your CeramicSpeed Bottom Brackets to achieve the lowest friction and the best longevity.

    The Coated Advantage

CeramicSpeed’s coated products offer the ultimate gains in performance and longevity. Their unique coating features several attributes that improve the longevity of CeramicSpeed Bearings. The increased hardness of the races, combined with the smoothness of theCeramicSpeed Balls results in virtually no wear on the bearing.

The coating is a metallic layer, which is 75% harder than the hardened steel races. The coating is applied in a very thin and even layer of 3 microns (0,003 mm) on the entire surface of the bearing race. Both the inside and the outside are treated to achieve optimal results.

Within  CeramicSpeed's comprehensive R&D program, the special coating has been developed in cooperation with a European coating specialist. Applied to the bearing’s steel races, through an advanced process that ensures an even, smooth and homogeneous surface, the coating formula improves even further the high quality of CeramicSpeed Bearings.

Thanks to the coating’s high resistance to corrosion – even if the bearing is contaminated with degreaser, water or mud, the risk of bearing failure due to corrosion is negligible. We recommend choosing CeramicSpeed Coated Bearings for unmatched longevity and incredibly low friction.

    Maintenance of Coated Bearings

Coated Bearings are more resistant to lack of lubrication when it comes to wear and damage on the bearing. Nonetheless, this does not mean that the need for maintenance is eliminated. Just as we do with our standard bearings, we recommend to always lubricate the bearings with our special grease to achieve optimal performance in terms of low friction and longevity.

For all training and racing applications, we recommend the use of CeramicSpeed All-Round Grease. For the lowest friction possible, we recommend the use of our TT Grease. However, compared to the standard All-Round Grease, the TT Grease has a shortened lifetime and therefore, it requires more frequent application.
