Tacx Flux 2 Smart T2980 - Direct Drive Cycletrainer
The Tacx Flux Smart T2980 cycle trainer features a compact and now even more realistic direct drive - interactive and maintenance-free. The swift response of the Smart electronics and the 7.6kg flywheel transmit the slightest fluctuations in resistance directly and accurately to your legs. Of all the Tacx trainers, the Flux has the heaviest actual flywheel with a mass inertia of 32kg. The greater the flywheel effect, the more realistic the cycling experience.
The Flux Smart uses ANT+ and Bluetooth® Smart for communication and can therefore be connected wirelessly to smartphones and tablets. The ANT+ FE-C protocol enables you to train with Tacx apps as well as with third-party apps such as Zwift and Trainer Road. You can also train stand-alone. If you do not connect the Flux, it will simulate a flat road.
Flux Smart Electromagnetic brake
The Flux Smart cycletrainer works with an electromagnetic brake with the advantages of being silent and maintenance-free at the same time. Thanks to the electromagnetic brake a resistance can be set that you also experience on the road or in a climb. The resistance unit provides a particular cycling experience by increasing or reducing the resistance on the rear wheel.
When cycling in a virtual terrain or in a film you can get outside the range for which the brake is intended. To allow cyclists with a motor brake and those with an electric brake to ride races against each other in multiplayer mode*, Tacx has developed the virtual speed. This concept translates the energy supplied into a certain speed, which can guarantee a fair contest. If this speed differs from the speed at which the rear wheel is running, the virtual speed will be shown on the screen in red.
* For this the Tacx Trainer Software 4 Advanced (included in the optional available Upgrade Smart package) and a license (7-days trial period) are required. See also "Software and apps".
Software and apps for Flux Smart
The Tacx Flux Smart trainer can be connected to your smartphone, tablet or computer with ANT+ or Bluetooth® Smart in order to use Tacx software and apps or that of others. With the possibility to use the trainer also stand-alone you are completely free in choosing your indoor cycling workout.
With the Tacx software and apps you may regulate your training ride by heart rate, gradient and power, or you may pick a famous route or race. Besides that, you may compete with other riders online. The training options vary by application:
Tacx Training App for smartphones
The Tacx Training App allows you to train freely based on slope, power or heart rate. The Analyser presents the performance data on your smartphone's display. The saved data can be analysed afterwards via the Tacx Cloud and with export you send the file with your results to the given email-address. This file can be uploaded in trainings software like Strava and Trainingpeaks.
Tacx Cycling App for tablets
The Tacx Cycling app is a simplified version of the Catalyst training software, the Analyser and Real Life Video to ride existing courses.
Catalyst offers professional training programs and fitness tests for a scientific analysis of your training session. Train on heart rate, power output or slope. Analyser presents the recorded training data on the screen of the tablet. Your performance is displayed in a graph.
Cycling in a Tacx film makes a training session more enjoyable and adventurous. The speed of the film is influenced by your cycling pace. If you are cycling up a mountain, the brake of your trainer will generate so much resistance that you can actually sense the percentage of incline.
All Tacx trainers are freely accessible since June 2015 as they are able to speak the ANT+ FE-C language. You can now adjust the resistance of our Smart trainers and check your speed, cadence and power with other software. The following software packages speak this new language too and allow you to control Tacx trainers: Zwift, TrainerRoad, Kinomap and Bkool.
